From the Back Cover
A tribute to the legendary Tony Hancock, star of HANCOCK'S HALF HOUR. Written by Alan Simpson and Ray Galton.
Hancock's Half Hour dominated radio and TV in the late 50s and early 60s - at the height of its popularity, the BBC was inundated with complaints from publicans and shopkeepers whose businesses suffered when it was broadcast! It has remained the benchmark by which other comedy series are measured. These five complete episodes represent the very best of Hancock's Half Hour and demonstrate exactly why Tony Hancock is a Comedy Great.
THE BEDSITTER Originally transmitted 26 May 1961 It's a futile, endless, boring Sunday afternoon in bedsit land. Until the phone rings...
THE BOWMANS Originally transmitted 2 June 1961 An Everyday story of Old Joshua Merryweather, unceremoniously sacked from the cast of this Archer's spoof.
THE RADIO HAM Originally transmitted 9 June 1961 The good news for the stranded yacht, is that its mayday signal has been picked up by a radio ham. The bad news is that the radio ham is Hancock.
THE LIFT Originally transmitted 16 June 1961 "Eight persons is eight persons - you'll have to get out" insists the attendant as Hancock barges into the crowded lift. But Hancock's not budging.
THE BLOOD DONOR Originally transmitted 23 June 1961 Perhaps the best-loved of all Hancock episodes. "A pint, why that's very nearly an armful!" protests our public spirited hero when he decides "to give so that others may live".
