Pantyhose Hero - admittedly a great title for a martial arts comedy - nevertheless seems very much a rushed (and botched) job from the usually reliable Sammo Hung. He stars, alongside Alan Tam, as an undercover cop on the trail of a slasher who targets gay victims, but the perfunctory plot is nothing more than a vehicle for offensive humour and lacklustre fight scenes.

Displaying the worst of Hong Kong cinema (poor pacing, 'broad' humour, inept linking scenes between highlights) without the redeeming qualities of the best Hong Kong films (a love of the artistry of film and film technique, a 'chop-suey' approach of cramming in incidental delights and as much variety from reel to reel as possible, and of course those incendiary fight scenes), Pantyhose Hero is a big disappointment - all the more so in that many of the best Hong Kong films have come from Sammo.

For an experience more representative of Hong Kong films, and Sammo at his best, try the excellent Pedicab Driver, Dragons Forever (containing an as yet unsurpassed martial arts climax), or Shanghai Express (for inoffensive humour that works). Pantyhose Hero is one for compeletists only.

The two stars are for the climactic fight scene, which at least demonstrates some of Sammo's usual flair and imagination.

Sammo and his partner Alan Tam have to go undercover as a gay couple to find a killer. The action is great in this movie, but there are a lot of jokes made about gay people. So if you don't like that kind of thing you'd better lay off this one! Nonetheless I liked the movie, especially the endfight! That was totally amazin g!
