Synopsis
Major Yates, who resigned his commission to become Resident Magistrate for the West of Ireland attempts to keep relationships between the townsfolk harmonious. However an easy time is not exactly what salmon poaching, rum smuggling and a visiting Indian polo team are set to create.

Peter Bowles returns as Major Sinclair Yeates, a retired English army officer appointed Resident Magistrate for the West of Ireland in the days before Irish independence.

The Major has to maintain the balance between befriending the local townspeople and bestowing law and order upon the eccentric community. This is not always an easy role, especially when there are people like Flurry Knox eager to lead him astray and locals like the Foley clan intent on staying on the wrong side of the law.

Shot entirely on location in the beautiful and dramatic Irish countryside, The Irish RM also stars Bryan Murray, Doran Godwin, Faith Brook, Lise-Ann McLaughlin, Anna Manahan and Brendan Conroy.

First shown on Channel 4, this classic video contains the entire second series on two feature length tapes.

These tapes continue the adventures and misadventures of Major Sinclair Yeates (Peter Bowles), a British resident magistrate in turn-of-the-century Ireland. The show continues with Philippa Yeates (Doran Godwin), Mrs. Cadogan (Anna Manahan), and the irrepressible Flurry Knox (Bryan Murray). Sadly, Mrs. Knox (Beryl Reid) is the one notable character not carried forward into this set.

As with the last series of tapes, this one contains 6 tapes, each one a one-hour episode. This show contains nothing objectionable, and is great for viewing by the whole family. I found these episodes somewhat darker, and less whimsical than the first tape series, but highly enjoyable nonetheless.
