Smooth, well executed and entertaining., 14 April 2001

I first saw this in the cinema and was disappointed after all the hype but when it came out on DVD I fell in love with this fun movie. The special effects are excellently executed, the storyline is smooth and the team are all real quirky characters. I have watched this on DVD about twenty times and must say that it is pure entertainment. As for bad guyz well Dr. Smith is so dislikable that you really want him to come to a bad end. All in all a must for any Sci Fi collection . . . this has legs.

Monumentally bad rehash of a tedious sixties show., 10 Jul 2000

Another prime example of why tired old ideas fail to make great new films, especially when executed with this degree of ham-fisted scripting, turgid plot and odd direction.Matt Le Blanc provides a stilled performance that makes his Friends character seem like Citizen Kane but then there isn't enough here for even the most limited actor to work with. The script is poor at best and stymied by the kind of sickly sentimentality that would even offend Walt Disney.Halfway through the movie a comic reference is made to the Waltons, but even that showed greater restraint in its view of the family. Even Gary Oldman's typically overstated performance seems subtle in the midst of this saccharin dross. The plot has the feel of being assembled in post production from a series of rushes that were never intended to make the final cut. This is obvious even to the extend of lines being re-dubbed over action so that the lips are no longer close to be in synch. Plus points? The Apollo 440 soundtrack and Penny Robinson who adds a touch of bite to the otherwise vomit inducing atmosphere. If Heather Graham can't save a film then this corpse is truely lifeless.

Plain boring, 23 Mar 2000

I've seen this movie in German, and I can't believe everyone's making such a fuss about the atmosphere. When I watched it, I half-heartedly followed the storyline, but there weren't any of these "wow-that's-really-cool"-effects that made the "Star Wars" movies so attractive. I always almost exactly knew what would happen next. I wouldn't say the special effects were bad, but they were pointless, in my point of view. No-one should spend money for this thing.P.S: I'm a German pupil and I've been learning English for 2 years now, so please excuse me if I've made any mistakes
