Sound techniques, rather slow, 28 Sep 2001

This video has both its good points and its bad points. Firstly,if you are a complete newcomer to Pilates, this video is probably a good place to start. However, don't expect to come away with the full picture, as the exercises that are demonstrated on this video hardly scratch the surface of what Pilates has to offer! Secondly, Lynne Robinson is an excellent teacher and really explains things well. Having read a lot of Pilates books, it was interesting to see the exercises actually performed 'for real' by someone who obviously has a great knowledge of this subject. I have to say that I was slightly dissapointed with the actual content of the video as I expected a lot more variation and exercises of different degrees of difficulty to be demonstrated. However it was all very, VERY basic and not what I would consider a 'workout'. Fine for ultimate beginners, but anyone above this level would soon outgrow this video.(I have not seen any of her other videos so maybe the later ones are more challenging?) Also, I found the pace to be quite slow and a bit repetitive. Not too bad if you do the exercises with her, but terrible if you are watching it for information and reference. Unless you like to just follow the same regime parrot fashion every time you work out, it is not much use. I personally could not see myself getting this video out and playing it every time I wanted a Pilates workout. It would be far too time consuming and boring. However, even though I found this video not for me, do not be too discouraged as everything that is on this video is completely faultless in terms of being correctly taught/technique etc. Incidentally I found Lynne's book The Official Body Control Pilates Manual to be excellent and I highly recommend it. Maybe thats why I was expecting a bit more from this video!
