5.0 out of 5 stars One of their best, and don't bother looking for a plot, 13 Mar 2000
By A Customer
Hardy brings forgotten soldier Laurel home for dinner, and that's the entire plot. This very funny comedy has some great visual humor that can be enjoyed again and again. An excellent choice for first-time Laurel & Hardy viewers, and confirmed Laurel & Hardy fanatics will love this.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good stable production from the 'boys'., 16 Nov 2001

As usual a simple plot - Ollie finds Stan at a retired soldier's institute and invites him home for a meal.
Although this is a partial remake of one of their shorts, there are some wonderful sight gags during the film, which are classic L&H. For me the film is further enchanced by the familiar faces of James Finlayson and Billy Gilbert.
Not their best, but would still recommend to all comedy film fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a classic but darn close!, 8 Feb 2009

(REAL NAME)
Blockheads came close to the end of the teams contract with the Hal Roach studios and is mostly a feature version of the 1929 classic, 'Un-acustomed as we are' which was the boys first talkie. The plot is the same as this earlier short, Stan intrudes on Olivers marital life and choas is the end result. James Finlayson stars in an excellent fight scene with Oliver Hardy and Stan smokes a pipe made up from only his hand and a match that strikes twice, need I say more. The only reason I will not give this gem a five star rating is that in truth, it feels like the boys were borrowing from earlier material because they had trouble coming up with new material. They did not add to the earlier short (infact it is not as good as the earlier effort) and the female roles in this one never come close to the greatness of Mae Busch, the original and evergreen Mrs Hardy. However after all that being said it is a Laurel and Hardy movie and a good one. If youre anything like me nothing in this world would ever put you off those boys and who am I to critize with harsh words. Enjoy, but remember this film was first seen in 1929 as 'Unaccustomed as we are' which was the boys first talkie and sincerely one of their best.

:)
