excellent combination of Pilates, dance and weights, 8 Feb 2002
By A Customer
It does it all - tone, strengthen, lengthen, and burn. Jennifer Kries invented The Method - a mix of Pilates, yoga and ballet - I have a bunch of her videos and also her book - and this program gives you a good long warm up which is quite a workout unto itself as well as a stretch. Then there's a crosstraining section - modern dance interspersed with unusual weight training - they're actually classic Pilates weight moves, for those who know Brooke Siler's book - and then at the end a long, pure Pilates abdominal session which will leave you gasping. Long - I think about an hour and a half - but worth it. You feel so good after - straight, stretched, and tight at the same time.Note - when I say pure Pilates, I'm not talking Lynn robinson style - these are the exercise LR builds up to at the end of her more advanecd videos. You will feel them. Oh - cool music too - kind of African drums.

More than just a good workout!, 13 Aug 2001
By A Customer
This video comprises more than just a good workout - the routines insist on flexibility, balance and grace. Not only felt like I'd burnt off some calories, but also as if my posture, suppleness and sanity had been restored. There are four sections (warm-up, cross-training/cardio-vascular, legs/abs/hips etc toning, and cool down) which, done together, last about one and a half hours. The weaker points of this video are the sound quality (a bit poor) and some of the dance-based movements were slightly tricky (though not impossible) and required a good sized floor space (which I haven't got, so just had to "reduce" one or two of the exercises). Hand weights were also called for during the cross-traing, but I used two jars of stir-fry sauce with no bother whatsoever. But, the flow between movments was excellent, and the floor exercises were clearly explained and felt safe from the word go. Definiety try this if you're bored of your current video, like dance, and want something a bit more challenging than Patsy Palmer.

Not for beginners, 9 Jan 2004
By A Customer
I was rather disappointed with this video as it was pretty difficult to follow in places, particularly the dance routines in the cross training section. The abdominal work is fairly advanced and certainly not for beginners - also advice on the breathing tecniques came towards the end of each exercise rather than the beginning. The video is probably aimed at those who already work out in this way as it is not really suitable for someone new to the Method.
