5.0 out of 5 stars A rare glimpse of truly emotive storytelling...., 13 Nov 2001
By A Customer
The X-Files is usually full of mysterious science-fiction/horror/thriller themes, so it's a real suprise when something else comes along.
Like "Memento Mori", "all things" and "En Amis", "Christmas Carol/Emily" concentrates on weaving an intricate side-story to the alien/hybrid/clone/colonisation storylines. It clears up some (but not all) aspects of Scully's abduction. An episode from waaay back in Season Two shows Scully being mysteriously impregnated by an alien device. Emily is the fruit of their labour....
Lacking in action, the episodes could have turned into a tedious mess. However, like the best X-file cases, everything comes into place and weaves intricately with other themes of the show. As ever, the leading stars put in a solid performance. Whereas Duchovny appears to be on auto-pilot, Anderson lights up the screen with an emotionally captive performance.
A rare Season Five highlight, and an important piece of mythology.

2.0 out of 5 stars O.K. But not great., 15 Oct 2000
By A Customer
I hate soap operas and this episode was to much like one. Scully's Brother arguing with Mulder was very boring and the revelation about Emily at the end was a bit pants. Buy it if you like soap operas.
