4.0 out of 5 stars Car thieves and Kung Fu, 12 Feb 2001
By A Customer
Frankie Chan is one of the most underrated people in Hong Kong cinema. He has starred in some great Kung Fu films like Prodigal Son, as well as directing many more of his own action movies (Burning Ambition, Oh Yes Sir! etc). Outlaw Brothers is a typical example of a Frankie Chan movie. Chan casts himself in the lead role as a car thief who gets involved with the usual badder-than-bad bad guys. Yukari Oshima plays the policewoman on his trail. The pair play a game of cat-and-mouse for a while before teaming up against the villains. O.K. so some of the comedy is a bit lame and the story isn't that involving, but the movie features some excellently choreographed fight action that more than makes up for it. With Oshima using kickboxing and Chan preferring a more traditional style of Kung Fu the fight scenes really do pack a punch. The finale is especially noteworthy for featuring just about every Western martial artist working in Hong Kong movies at that time. This extended fight sequence includes great performances from Mark Haughton and Jeff Falcon, both getting to show off some nice moves against Oshima and Chan (check out Falcon's body-popping). If you're a fan of more modern day martial arts action then Outlaw Brothers is well worth seeing.
