Amazon.co.uk Review

Based on the novels by Bernard Cornwell, Sharpe (1993-7) ran to 14 full-length television films that follow the adventures of the titular soldier through the later years of the Napoleonic Wars. The programmes are an outstanding achievement for the small screen, dominated by Sean Bean's central performance as the heroic, troubled outsider who turns out to be a resourceful and loyal leader. Bolstered by a strong supporting cast, particularly Daragh O'Malley as Harper and (in later episodes) Abigail Cruttenden as Jane, Sharpe is often visually striking, the action tense and gripping. Consistency is maintained by all 14 episodes being directed by Tom Clegg. --Gary S Dalkin

Synopsis

Richard Sharpe and Sgt Harper return to England to recruit new soldiers for the depleted ranks of the South Essex Battalion. When Sharpe is summoned to meet the Prince of Wales he discovers sleaze and corruption in the highest ranks.

4.0 out of 5 stars A unique and excellent addition to the Sharpe Series, 12 Oct 2000
By A Customer
On returning to England, Sharpe and his faithful Seargent Major Harper discover deception within the government. As the tale unfolds, Sharpe and Harper embark on an undercover mission to solve a mystery of missing recruits, whilst confronting enemies from the past. The unmistakable action, adventure and romance that we have all come expect from Sharpe is teamed with a unique storyline which makes this an excellent addition to the Sharpe collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharpe on English soil......brilliant, 27 Mar 2002
Sharpe and Harper return home to find the regiment they had been promised in Spain was missing and by all acounts only marched on paper. Sharpe has a different kind of battle on his hands..... one that leads to him meeting up with old adversaries and unmasking corruption in the highest ranks

Look out for a little bit of romance aswell!
