5.0 out of 5 stars Five stars not enough..., 21 Nov 2000
By A Customer
"The Great Lochdubh Salt Robbery" sets the scene and establishes the characters for this wonderful TV series. I'm a great fan of the MC Beaton mysteries and admittedly the TV series bears little resemblance to the books, but this shouldn't deter anyone from the enjoyment of a series that gives new meaning to the word "quirky". The combination of superb writing, great acting and breath-taking scenery add up to something not to be missed. Thanks to BBC America, the series is gaining many new fans in the US and my hope is that the BBC will release the entire series on video soon - hopefully in the NTSC format as well as PAL.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great introduction to a series which has it all., 2 Oct 2000

Beaton's series comes to life on the screen, with characters that are far too easy to become attached to. The Highland Scots' wit and endulgence in a slower pace of life sets the stage for The Great Lochedubh Salt Robbery - a tale that introduces viewers to the series and to characters that like a good book you can't tear yourself away from. Through both episodes, there are moments that have you laughing aloud, watching in awe and even near tears - a true classic of television. And it's impossible to make too much of the stunning west Highland scenery that is the backdrop for Hamish Macbeth. ...
