4.0 out of 5 stars A great film, that would not disappoint fans or new viewers., 14 Mar 2001

Fans of Laurel and Hardy would definately not be disappointed with 'Pardon us'. Put in jail because of selling bootleg alcohol in the time of prohibition and because of a mis intepretation of Stan's toothache the following consequences transcend the audience into a melee of laughter. Not only are their lifes inside prison funny but also their botched attempts to escape. This restored addition also boosts new footage. 'Pardon Us' would definately not disappoint a fan and you could pick worse films to introduce new viewers to the comedy world in the eyes of Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fine Start, 21 Mar 2003

This is L&H's first feature and it is one of the better ones, though it falls short of the classics. Jailed for bootlegging L&H inadvertantly escape, are recaptured and finally and also inadvertantly, foil a prison riot. The film is loose and episodic but contains many funny scenes - Ollie's lovely rendition of 'Lazy Moon', followed by Stan's graceful comic dance is worth the price of the tape alone.
The restored footage includes a scene(originally deleted by Stan) in which our heroes save the governor's daughter. This is not particularly funny and does not really flow into the rest of the film as there is a jarring continuity gap. All said this is worth buying by anyone who likes Laurel and Hardy.
