3.0 out of 5 stars UFC I - The Beginning, 12 Oct 2001
By R. Middleton (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
UFC I Fight Card:
Kevin Rosier (KickBoxing) Vs. Zane Frazier (Karate)
Royce Grace (Grace Ju Jitsu) Vs. Art Jimmerson (Boxing)
Ken Shamrock (Shootfighting) Vs. Pat Smith (Kickboxing)
Gerard Gordeau (Savate) Vs. Taili Tuli (Sumo)

A Good intro into the world of Gracie Ju Jitsu. Gracie dominates this Championship and shows his awesome technique. Ken Shamrock being an experienced and well respected Shootfighter, (esp. in Japan) gives Gracie the most resistance. Pat Smith, a v. talented athlete, also puts on a good show. The other contenders are not so impressive and most fights resemble that of a streetfight. Note the Gordeau Vs. Tuli fight is cut; as Tuli takes a massive full power roundhouse kick to the face whilst on the ground and looses a few teeth and badly damages an eye. This clip is shown at the start of the UFC 2 video.
If you're only going to buy one or two UFC vids then don't buy this. It's more of a collectors video, as there's little technique shown apart from Gracie and Shamrock.

4.0 out of 5 stars real fighting!, 29 Oct 2001
By A Customer
The birth of the UFC and includes some pretty good fights. Rosier vs Frazier is a bit of a classic, 3-4 minutes of continuous punching, although the gordeau x Teliu fight is cut which is annoying.

The meeting of two of the greatest fighters ever in Royce Gracie vs Ken glamrock is a big plus...

finals a bit dull though

e-mail me if any1 wants to swap UFC or WVT vids

3.0 out of 5 stars fighing on the ground, 25 Aug 2000
the commentator repeatedly apologises that most of the action takes place on the ground ...you'd expect loads of bleeding noses etc but Gracie and Shamrock are intend on grabbing their opponent to the mat and choking them...its a good video but dont expect mad street fighting ,its more like werestling where they make real attempts to hit eachother ..there are 8 fighters but the sumo fighter is not shown at any stage ?
