Babylon 5 is a different kind of Sci-Fi. Unlike many other series it tells a continuous story over 5 years. This sets it aside from most of the Star Trek franchise, because, with the exception of later DS9, Trek tends to be in one episode stories. Not so here. In this first tape the scene is set, introducing characters and describing the universe. Midnight on the Firing Line forshadows much that is to follow, with references to Earth politics, Narn - Centauri hostility and a little gun-boat diplomacy. Soul Hunter looks at some of the more metaphysical aspects of the show, the beliefs and traditions of some of the significant alien races. Secrets also begin to be revealed. Although neither episode is a true classic by Babylon 5 standards they are essential viewing and serve as excellent introductions to this monumemtal work, and thus I give it 4 stars, rather than the three it would get if it were just a mid-season tape. If you like SF, this is the place to start.
