3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad....v.similar to the original, 26 Jun 2002
This film...thankfully...goes some way to wiping the memory of the truly awful Highlander 2. The writers decided to ignore the fact that Highlander 2 had ever been written, and follow on from where Highlander 1 left off. Unfortuantely, Highlander 1 was not left open for a sequel so instead of trying to explain how Connor MacLeod won the 'prize' then lost it, the writers have just ignored that part of the first film.
What we have here as a film, is pretty much a carbon copy of the original. This film has many parrells with the first. That being said though, we do have a good film with some great camerawork and even better special effects. The acting is superb with great performances from Christopher Lambert, Deborah Unger and Mario Van Peebles.
The music in the film is also great, and I also bought 'The visit' for the song 'Bonny Portmore'.
This is worth buying but you won't be as impressed as you were by the original film.

3.0 out of 5 stars GOOD - COULD DO BETTER, 17 Jan 2001
By Bernard Mcclory (EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND Scotland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I consider this film a missed opportunity to bring the original concept back on track. The villain of the story line - Mario van Peebles - was to similar to Clancy Brown in voice and mannerisms of the first "Highlander" story that after another scene where he does more gymnastics with his tongue while talking (why do they do that????) that after a while you stopped believing in him in the character. Another incident in the final sword fight where he is cut in half along the waist and the bottom half walked along to join the top half reminds you of the "Tom and Jerry" cartoons, this scene had no place in this movie. It has been often said - with some justification - that Christopher Lambert walks through his movies without putting to much emotion into the roles, this I'm afraid is another one. Having said that the script was so dire that even Lawrence Olivier would be hard pressed to do anything with the story----that more than anything was the main culprit. On the plus side the film is saved by it's "moments" between Christopher Lambert and Deborah Unger while he prepares to meet Mario van Peebles, the Celtic music running through the movie especially "Bonny Portmore" by Loreena McKennitt which was played through a good part of the movie (it even made me buy the CD "The Visit") and the Scottish scenery which made this an okay film rather than a total washout.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun to see that it is like one, 8 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This thrilling film distroys everyones illusion that the film serice ended terebly.

You might think two is rubbish but three inproves it starts that three imortals get buried under a pile of rocks in what used to be a temple.

They are uncovered when an arcilogical site starts digging. The immortals are know free and want revenge on the person that buried them there (THE HIGHLANDER).

THE HIGHLANDER comes back to America leaving his adopted son with a friend. A fight erupts between the groups leader and THE HIGHLANDER on HOLY GROUND.

I wont say any more as I don't want to ruin this great film.
