5.0 out of 5 stars The best five pounds you will ever spend!, 9 Mar 2001
By A Customer
For anyone, like myself, who suspeceted that the producers of the excellent "Thats the Way It Is" had more worthwhile concert footage available to them than they included in the final release, here it is! (or at least some of it). The first half of the video really shines. The Las Vegas performances in 1970 capture Elvis at his most vibrant. He had rediscovered live performance only two years earlier and was still revelling in the power that he held over his audience. For me the highlights are a medley of "Daddy Don't Cry" and "In the Ghetto", two songs that are inevitably overlooked in later years as Elvis apparently became somewhat bored with concerts and the shows themselves became formulaic. "Elvis on Tour", the 1972 documentary, outtakes from which make up the second half of this presentation, is Elvis on autopilot. The crowd loved him and he knew it, he just didn't have to try that hard any more. This section is interesting but possibly dispensable. Sandwiched in between these two "sets" is reharsal footage for the Vegas shows. Elvis plays guitar, (really!!!) and leads the central elements of his backing band ie James Burden, Ronnie Tutt, Gerry Schiff and Charlie Hodge, through some early classics such as "Dont". Elvis just starts to play what he wants and its up to the rest of the band to pick it up and follow.Fascinating stuff. In short this video is an essential purchase for any Elvis fan. It fills in some of the gaps, and leaves you wishing that there could be more discoveries like this from a long forgotten archive. Its not perfect, the second half of the video reminds us that Elvis' decline is just around the corner but for the Vegas footage alone it is undoubtedly the best five pounds you will ever spend!

Brilliant video. Out-takes from previous material, but don't let that scare you!Rock'n Roll, pop, country, godspel. It's all here. Very great stuff from the King. Only complaint:video lasts only one hour - should have been longer but very recommendable!
