Tim Roth stars as Nick, a cynical, smart-arssed TV salesman. He gets fired gets drunk and impulsively goes off on a road trip in search of graeter fulfilment, abandoning his girlfriend Beth (Bridget Fonda). She's devastated, but her best friend Carol, who happens to be Nick's ex-girlfriend, saw it coming. The bed is still warm when idealist Sid appears, falling instantly in love with her. Is he the answer to Beth's problems? Carol thinks so; sometimes the only way to wake up is to sleep with someone else.....

I like this film. Sure, it's a bit contrived and some of the characters are a wee bit too annoying but I watched it again recently and it has a cool 1990's US indie vibe to it. It also seems to hang together quite well and the accompanying music gives it a bit of a haunting feel but also adds to the drama of the hot summer days that the film is set over. I think this film should have been a bit more successful than it was.
