4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful for anyone who has visited this dolphin!!, 6 Feb 2003
By A Customer
This video focuses on a single hermit dolphin who has lived in Dingle Bay, Co. Kerry, in the SouthWest of Ireland. The dolphin, known as Fungie (or "Dorad" - Irish for "dolphin"). Fungie, a wild bottlenose dolphin has chose to make this beautiful little bay his home for the past 20 years or so.

The video is narrated by John Hurt throughout, and it opens with some of the spectacular scenery of the area. The film runs for approx 1 hour and shows Fungie happily swimming and leaping out of the water, both on his own and with humans. The tale mainly focuses on those who have formed a bond with the dolphin and shows their interactions with him. They talk about their wonderful experiences with Fungie.

Part of the film, then switches to some of the locals in their local pub at night. While some give their opinion on the dolphin, it mainly shows people sitting in a pub drinking, when I would have preferred to see more of the dolphn!

The film also focuses for a short while on the perils of pollution, and shows some disturbing footage of a crowded bay, with people in their motor boats, etc, all trying to get Fungie's attention. Although Fungie willingly comes out to greet tourist boats in the summer, as his popularity grows, some take it a little too far.

I would recommend this video to anyone who is interested in wild dolphins interacting with humans. I would especially recommend this video to anyone who, like me, has visted Fungie and became enchanted with him. It is very special having a video devoted to this special friend to remember always!
