4.0 out of 5 stars The Man of My Life (1992), 2 Jan 2003
This is a very enjoyable lightweight French film- up there with films such as Venus Beauty, Nelly & M. Arnaud and The Girl from Paris. It stars the wonderful Spanish actress Maria de Medeiros (Henry & June, Golden Balls, Pulp Fiction)- who is an enchanting lead- her beauty is one very individual. Hardly the type of film that sets the world on fire, it is a reminder that the light/romantic is an area of some expertise and so if you enjoyed films like Il Postino, Swingers or the less camp aspects of Muriel's Wedding (or those films mentioned above) than this should go down well. OK, it doesn't deal with the existential nature of life or show war in technological detail, but it is a film with wonderful human qualities. Comfort viewing maybe, but when it's as sublime as this...

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, 12 April 2003
By A Customer
This film is about two people who do not know a whole lot about love. The woman is interested in marriage, purely to be supported by a man. The man, has little faith in love, prefers to have casual relationships and seems happy to go about his bachelor business. The two lives soon co-join and the viewer is presented with a study on how their attitudes and feelings towards one another change. It is a refreshing film in its portrayal of this unconvential romance.
Above all, it is a French film which is light-hearted, warm and will leave a smile on your face, mixed with a few insights on the timeless problems. The soundtrack also is worth mentionning - it is warm and fun, adding to this romantic comedy.
I would consider buying it if you are after some intelligently made comedy, and above all, an entertaining watch.
