Aside from brief nude shots and one scene involving spiders and cockroaches there isn't anything really terrifying about "human experiments" or aka 'beyond the gate".

It's more like a made for TV wannabee drama/horror film. To give it credit maybe that made it better as you able to concentrate on the characters. The beautiful Linda Haynes (really hot and who should have done more movies)plays Rachel Foster wrongly convicted (in laughing fashion) of murdering a family. The rest of the movie has her dealing with life in prison until the "expirements" starts....

As stated not very scary, nor graphic, it reminds a bit of another movie called X-RAY (Starring another beauty Barbi Benton) where the staff seems non-existent when weird things are going on.

It's an ok movie, others will say it's terrible but the failure of this movie is that doesn't the level of violence of sensuality that you'd expect from such a genre (it could have been a prison exploitation flick).

As such the heavy price tag on it on here on Amazon isn't worth it. It's not the type of movie that will warrant repeated viewings.

For ages I was looking for this film, but only recently found out the title. I first saw it 1980, and remember being impressed by it as a horror fan.
Like a lot of things though, stuff you saw years ago as a teenager seem excellent at the time but when you see them as an adult you think "what did I see in this film?".
The film itself isn't awful but it really shows it's age and didn't live up to my vague memories of it. The story is a bit silly and implausible, but the acting by the main character is good. I'd say it was an average 80's horror, worth a look if you can but don't spend too much.
