4.0 out of 5 stars A thought provoking film, 7 April 2001
By A Customer
One of the last films of Satyajit Ray, the film is notable for the very interesting visualisation of the original play in a typical middle-class modern Bengali society. It would be a must-buy for someone who has already had the opportunity to appreciate some of Satyajit Ray's earlier films, in that it marks a distinct cornerstone in his final stance as a filmmaker. The acting is pretty good. The social and emotional structure of a middle-class torn between the ideals of socialism, and the harsh realities of unemployment, corruption and other social problems is brought out very well. In a word, this is a thought provoking film, and the adaptation of the original play is noteworthy.
