4.0 out of 5 stars Dull narrator, excellent footage., 15 Feb 2005
It was like finding a long lost friend. This video was first shown by the BBC in November 1990 to celebrate the 500th Grand Prix. Poor Nigel Roebuck is a superb writer but he has not got the correct sort of voice for narrating. This problem is not significant as the video scores over many others as it is Murray's dulcit tones that are heard on most of the race footage.
The great moments of Formula One sound so much better when described by Murray Walker. The other interesting thing is the little clips of 1970's TV footage which we never seem to be allowed to see. On the Brunswick archive (The poor footage packaged and repackaged from the 1970's) for example, Brabham plunging off on the last lap at Monaco in 1970 is missed. On this video the moment is beautifully caught on the TV footage of the time. While the video is too short to catch all the action, the 60 minute video is very well selected in the clips that it shows. As a postcript, Murray deserves a tiny bit of criticism. When asked what Formula One has meant to his life, (along with great drivers) he says that it has allowed him to visit 42 countries! Thanks Murray! Surely there is more to the sport than that!

4.0 out of 5 stars F1's greatest hits, 2 Jan 2008

(REAL NAME)
With clips from some 50 races from 1950 to 1990 this is the closest to a Formula One 'Greatest Hits'. Well edited but let down by Roebuck's commentary. Interspersed with some interviews and a sad reminder of those who have departed since this was made in 1990 - Fangio, Senna, Hunt, Ken Tyrrell, Rob Walker. With F1 returning to the BBC it would be timely to get this out on DVD, or better still update it.
