4.0 out of 5 stars A warm appraisal of the man's art made soon after his death, 28 Nov 2001
By alex clelland (London United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This is an edition of the UK arts programme South Bank Show shown soon after Andy's death in 1987 and carries some warm tributes to the artist.
The show is enjoyable for the footage of Andy thourghout his career and great contributions from Warhol Superstars, such as Pope Ondine and Gerard Malanga. Ondine died not too long afterwards, but how come Malanga looks so good for his age?
The documentary spends too much time on Andy's films and not enough on his later art, missing much of the importance of the Mao paintings of the seventies or his portraits.
For me, it gives a great insight into the playfulness of the man, particularly during an early interview when he is trying to avoid cracking up with laughter when giving monosyllabic answers in a tv interview.
Highly recommeded.
