This is a fantastic video for anyone who has always dreamed about being able to play the violin, but has always been put off by the snobbery surrounding this instrument. This video takes you through everything from buying your first violin to playing your first tune. Ric Sanders is the perfect presenter as he slowly takes you through the basics and explains everything he is doing. There are lots of close-ups which makes it easy to copy what he is doing on screen. Sander's folk background makes this an ideal video for anyone who wants to play folk and traditional music (most violin books seem to concentrate on classical music). This video does not shy away from the fact that it takes months of practice to fully master the basics of playing the violin, but it does give you the confidence to give it a try. An inspirational video.

Most stuff you find when wanting to learn the violin is classical stuff. There are a limited number of self-teaching resources for the fiddle as it is, without them all just being classical, which is a problem when your looking at doing irish folk like me. I thort id take a chance with this video and it is apsolutly perfect. It gives u all the basic skills u need to get going, once u can play this video back to front inside out ur well on ur way to playing the fiddle. The presenter, ric sanders, is a very infomative bloke and does alot more than jsut tell u wat to do, as well as giving differnt views on the things hes teaching (thts where the diversity into other styles other than classical come in) he also has a larf with u and cracks a few jokes which make the learning process a bit lighter, and not as daunting. He also does a piece at the end on his own fiddle which is inspiring and just makes u want to learn more.
