3.0 out of 5 stars Good basics video, 1 Feb 2003
By A Customer
This is actually quite a good video, once you get over Jim Shortts mustache and obvious role as a James Bond spy bloke.

It suprised me as I was not expecting much after seeing an nin jit su video. It was simple and direct. It was the first video I've seen where they teach you specifically to evade instead of meeting force with force. Such a simple concept, but countless martial arts "experts" fail in this. Simple is what works in general.

It provides you with ideas that can help you develop from a beginner level. Those of you who think you are not beginners should also take a look at this as you may be surpised to what you may learn.

Having said all that the striking techniques employed here are not very good. This is mainly useful for basic grappling and acouple of other points like evasion).

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good introductory video, 7 Oct 2001
By wildoddson@aol.com (Kingston Upon Hull) - See all my reviews
I was impressed with shortt's work. The video took the form of a seminar and explained, in plain English, some of the deeper aspects of the art.
The techniques selected are some of the simpler techniques found within Ju Jutsu classes the world over but their presentation and accompaning narrative ensured that peoples appreciation and application of the waza would be maximised.

4.0 out of 5 stars A useful introduction to all aspects of Jujutsu, 4 Sep 2000
By A Customer
James Shortt is an international expert on Jujutsu and has presented in this tape a number of different aspects of the art which are no always found even in books on the art. For instance the ability to sense the approach of an opponent even when you cannot see him/her. He also explains the attitudes of the Japanese expert and also the etiquette and how it is wrapped up in self awareness and readiness for combat.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a waste of time
I found the video to be very basic and slow. There was not much information given and seemed like he was doing everything in slow motion to make the video longer. Read more
