great insight into the real metallica, 20 Jan 2003
This video is excellent and shows what metallica are all about, it begins with lars talking about the song and the video and why they wrote it like it is, then the original video kicks in is very powerful to watch, however there is a second video which has been cut down to about 5 minutes this is nothing like the original, you get the impression that it was the record labels idea rather than bands as lars really doesnt seem to keen on it. All in all a must for any metallica fan new or old.

WANT A PIECE OF ROCK/METAL HISTORY?, 1 Jun 2000
OK, so regardless of what people think of Metallica now after their change in musical direction, and the more recent Napster events, there's no denying that One is one of the best songs ever made. And the video...The video centres around a similar theme to the song. A young man goes off to war, and comes back with no limbs, unable to to think, basically a vegetable. The song explores the man's hopes of dying, and the pain he's in. The video is very unique in it's style, mixing film of Metallica "jamming" in a city warehouse, and footage of a little known film "Johnny gets his gun", which Metallica bought the rights to so they could use it in the video. The howling of the grenades and mortars in the video perfectly complements the sultry guitar playing and lyrics of the song. This particular video also features an 8 minute interview with Lars at the beginning, complete with obligatory 80's metal haircut. Then the "One" video is shown, followed by the "Jamming Version". This second version of the song/video is rubbish. Metallica themselves were reluctant to make this version, but had to due to radio and TV presures (the full-length song was too long to play on the Radio or MTV), and contains only the band playing in the warehouse, but actually misses a lot of the song, which I think takes so much away from the atmosphere of both the song and the video. The original version of the video though, is a classic and if you are a fan of Metalica, you WILL want to see this video. No debate. And as for the question of money, £6 is well worth it for the original version alone.

I'm in great trouble and I need help!, 23 Jan 2002
Firstly, this gets five stars because of the first video and the song. The second video is included, probably to make this long enough for people to pay any money for it at all. Lars introduces it, (why not Hetfield?) and explains it very well and makes it clear how this idea came about and why they did it. The video then kicks off and we see not a debeut you might expect from an already successfull thrash metal band. This is not that, gloomy and sinister as Joe is trapped in himself, his thoughts creep into your head and are perfectly complemented by the lyrics particularly in one part. "What does it mean?"

"LANDMINE!" This is awesome and the film must be brilliant , I have not seen it, however, but would expect brilliance. The second video is just the first without the film and with less music. Go out and get this, it will be a rareity in years to come.
