5.0 out of 5 stars a game of two halves, 11 Sep 2003
the 1966 FA Cup Final was probably one of the most exciting Cup Finals in the last 50 years. It was, as many commentators have noted, a game of 2 halves, wherein Sheffield Wednesday, the underdogs, took a 2-0 lead over rivals Everton, and looked to have the trophy in their grasp by half-time having outplayed Everton.
But come the second half, and the Mike Trebilcock, a recent signing for Everton from Portsmouth. He struck two quick goals for Everton to level the scores; and then Dereck "Shirley" Temple, latched onto a defensive slip to run 25 yards before hammering home the winner past Ron Springett, one of the great British goalkeepers. Fans invaded the pitch, one in particular, who managed to evade police by slipping out of his jacket, before he was felled in a rugby tackle. The Beatles song, She Loves You, an unofficial Everton anthem of the time, reverberated around Wembley as the Toffeemen received the FA Cup.
