5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate in beautiful football, 21 Mar 2000
This has got to be one of the best footie videos ever! Pele, Jairzinho, Rivellino, Zico, Gerson, Tostao, Socrates, Garrincha - the list goes on; their World Cup exploits remain unmatched. The victory in the 1970 World Cup remains the zenith of the beautiful game, and it's more than well-covered here. A bit more on some of stars other than Pele might have been nice though. Still, for the admirer it's all there from bending free-kicks to samba bands. Even some of the spectacular near misses are included. Having watched it I wanted to go straight out into the park to try out a few Rivellino specials - as the commentators might say, Goooooooollllllllllllll!

5.0 out of 5 stars The pinnacle of footballing excellence, 14 Jul 2003
By M. Carter (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This is as comprehensive and entertaining a football documentary as you could hope for, on the world's most gifted football nation. Say what you want about the BBC in general, when it comes to football coverage they are simply head and shoulders above the rest. This video covers Brazilian football history from its grass roots to the 1986 world cup, and highlights from virtually every world cup game between 1966 - 1986 are shown here.
You have to watch the game footage several times to really appreciate the quality of football being played; for example, just see how many killer through balls/one-two passes that Zico instigates during the 1982 world cup games. Zico was a little bit before my time, so i never got to appreciate him. This tape makes his genius plain for all to see.
To cap it all, there is some truly memorable commentary from the BBC greats such as Kenneth Wolstenhome (rip) and John Motson. Their commentary really is the icing on the cake, it wouldn't be nearly as good with anyone else.
