Bergonzi has the most deep yet lyrical tenor voice, very reminiscent of Placido Domingo but the real reason to buy this CD is the marriage made in heaven with his regular singing partner, Renate Tebaldi. A great soprano in her own right, the duets with Carlo Bergonzi make a stunning pairing. Just try the love duet from Madame Butterfly to prove it yourself. It could hardly be bettered. The remastering of the mainly 1950's tracks works surprisingly well and this is an album that should be in every collection if only to reference one of the great tenors and sopranos duetting to perfection. Money VERY well spent !

That would be Mr. Bergonzi! Don't get me wrong, I am a fan of many others: M. Del Monaco, F. Corelli, J. Carreras and admire the work of R. Tucker, Di Stefano, P. Domingo, J. Bjoerling to name a few but Bergonzi is the one who has managed to enter my heart! It's difficult to choose among his roles since he enriches each one with his unique touch. He captures both drama and especially music with his "sublime voice" ! However, I think that Rodolfo (he truly is a real poet), the Duke, Radames, Alfredo and Riccardo are his top five.

And how fortunate we are that he performed so often with Renata Tebaldi, this great artist and my favourite soprano. Together, they can make the most demanding listener cry. Heaven! However, beyond her you also get to hear R. Scotto, J. Sutherland, F. Cossotto, E. Bastianini and D. Fischer Diskau.

This is a wonderful tribute to a superb artist. A treasure for every opera fan.
