Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

If you're going to pitch a movie about cyber-revolutionaries to plugged-in audiences, you'd best mind your MP3s and BPMs when choosing soundtrack selections. The cynical wireheads who flock to such high-tech conspiracy flicks as Brazil and Hackers are thrill0seekers of the highest calibre, and The Matrix soundtrack meets this challenge faster than a speeding cyborg. The opener, Marilyn Manson's anti-consumerism rant "Rock Is Dead", paints an aural portrait of urban decay. Ominous sirens permeate the Propellerheads' drum 'n' bass track "Spybreak!"; mournful piano alternates with hard shiny beats on Rob D's "Clubbed to Death"; and Meat Beat Manifesto fills "Prime Audio Soup" with enough bleeps to make one imagine being trapped inside a motherboard in Hell. It may sound dismal, but the friction permeating this compilation of techno, grind-core, and heavy metal is energising enough to make fans of these genres feel the same unity as a clandestine community of hackers. --Kristy Ojala

5.0 out of 5 stars The best album in this world (and the next)., 29 Jul 2002
I first saw the matrix when it came out on video and since then I just couldn't put it down, the film is perfect and this soundtrack reflects that.

Most of the memorable tunes from the film are packed into this CD and also a few that didnt make it into the film (e.g. Lunatic Calm - Leave You Far Behind).

I dont usually like music by Marilyn Manson and heavy metal but this album changed that, this CD is the best I have and I love it.

Any person who enjoys the film is highly recommended to purchase this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful and addictive, 8 May 2000
By nu-metal-grrrl@lostinmusic.co.uk (Somewhere out there in the Real World) - See all my reviews
It's as good as the film! Amazing. The music really reminds me of the film. It is mostly dancey and really exciting and active, but there is also some rock and metal music too. If you want something that reflects the film and is just as loud and futuristic (and listenable), this is perfect. It has all the music you heard in the movie and more. Since I got it I haven't been able to stop listening to it. It's my absolute favourite CD. Whatever kind of music you're into, if you're fairly open-minded and you loved the movie, you'll adore this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the classics, 29 Nov 2008
By Dead Ted Danson (Truth Or Consequences, New Mexicock) - See all my reviews

This is one of those classic soundtrack albums, that transcends the film the songs are (for the most part) taken from. Although I loved the Matrix when I was 11 or whatever age when it came out, I haven't watched it in years. The soundtrack on the other hand still garners regular listenings. It basically follows the tried and tested 90's formula of metal-meets-techno to great effect, featuring songs you know, and songs you don't. Much of the material is performed by enduring and memorable artists (Rammstein's pummeling 'Du Hast', Marilyn Manson's effortlessly catchy 'Rock is Dead'), but the album's real triumph was popularising songs from lesser-known artists, no more obvious than with Rob D's timeless 'Clubbed To Death'. Other tracks, such as Hive's ultimately tuneless 'Ultrasonic Sound' or Meat Beat Manifesto's 'Prime Audio Soup' are rescued from total obscurity simply by their presence on this album. The ratio of rock numbers to electronic mishmashes may perfectly compliment the film's action/headf**k melting pot, but such observations are irrelevant nearly ten years later when such a collection of tunes proves to be more than just relevant to the picture they're promoting. Simply put, this is a well-structured album, no filler, and well worth a buy, even if Reloaded and Revolutions put you off the Matrix forever.
