CD Description
Canada's David Kristian is steadily building a reputation as one of electronica's big- name players, with an increasingly impressive back catalogue on the sterling Alien8 Recordings label. Kristian is as well versed in the art of the Barrons ("Forbidden Planet") as he is in Kraftwerk, and his electronica can't be pigeonholed into a pat category. His sounds are all across the board, flirting with a wide variety of styles and substances.
"Suction Cup Race" works a quacking analogue melody out of thumps, bumps, and giggles, non-syncopated hi-hats racing about each other, while alien strings sigh and whine. "<
>" spits '50s Bell Lab sounds at you from the lips of synthetic gnu, as beat-box rhythms tumble out, tuchus-over-teakettle. On "Bad Mood No. 3672", Kristian's electrons ache in biomechanical breakdown, while filters popand low-end chords hum out a morose beat. BENEATH THE VALLEY OF THE MODULARS is prime contemporary electronica, benefited by Kristian's rich tapestries of sounds and rhythms.
