4.0 out of 5 stars Peaceful ambient music, 5 Aug 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Pearl & Umbra (Audio CD)
This CD is the result of a collaboration of a number of different performers, put together in a studio in the Lake District, without some of the contributors ever having met in person. It's a kind of musical collage containing natural sounds as well as guitars, voices, drums and keyboards. The performers retain their individual styles which are skillfully synthesised so that the whole has a feeling of unity. While there are contributions from an impressive list of artists such as Brian Eno, Peter Gabriel and David Sylvian, the most memorable track on the album is the beautiful, haunting 'Golden Hair', sung by Clodagh Simmonds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Art, for arts sake..., 18 Nov 2002

This review is from: Pearl & Umbra (Audio CD)
Being a fan of David Sylvain's music it didn't take for me to buy this album, it has a vocal performance by David not available anywhere else. Having bought the album for that reason I was blown away by what meet my ears not so much music as "sonic sculptures". A mix of ambient sounds and techno beats that is both entertaining and challlanging, this C.D. makes the case for investing in good set of headphones when listening. Play the album this way rather than using speakers a whole world of layers and sound textures is revealed which is a delight to the ears and exercise for the mind, buy this if you like to be entertained with a great deal of intelligence...

5.0 out of 5 stars An innovative album with dark beauty, 12 Aug 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Pearl & Umbra (Audio CD)
An exciting fusion of refreshing originality and technical engineering, with the latest technology not intruding but instead opening fascinating new avenues for collaboration between the various voices and artists. Sometimes dark and haunting, sometimes menacing but very beautiful. This is the future of sound. Hear this now!
