Combining the cheesy fun of Ed Wood with the grandeur of Looking For Richard, this is one of Howard Shore' s most accessibly appealing scores. Central to deciphering the intended tone is "Mooby the Golden Calf". A children's choir chants director Kevin Smith' s lyrics about being in the cartoon character's troops, backed by a bouncing carnival march. Taking this as your lead, you'll appreciate that the surrounding organ blasts, bell clanging, low brass, and heavenly choir are all reverent in a most irreverent way. The movie is about faith and how to keep it by not taking life so seriously. In that way, the heroic fanfares of "Behold the Metatron" and the ethereal call of the ondes martenot in "The Last Scion" become humorously respectful portraits of monotheistic iconography. The score is preceded by the Alanis Morissette song "Still", which carries lyrics that accord to the questioning quest taken by the movie. With purposely-defined acoustics, this is definitely one of the most intelligently conceived and produced soundtracks of 1999. --Paul Tonks

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Accompaniment To The Film !, 23 Dec 2000

After first seeing the film Dogma last year I knew I wanted to own the soundtrack. I do not own many soundtracks but the intricate instrumentals featured are a real pleasure to listen to. Tracks like "John Doe Jersey" and "Dogma" are extremely powerful whereas tracks like "Mooby the Golden Calf" are quite funny.

The only actual song on the cd is the first track "Still" which is performed by by Alanis Morissette. In the film this tracks sees out the credits. It is a great track. There are lots of eastern melodies which are combined with Morissette's clever word use and unique voice to make a particularly moving song.

Towards the end of the track it is hard to make out some of the lyrics but I am sure they can be found somewhere online.

In all I give this sountrack 5 Stars. It defintely is one of the best soundtracks of the year and certainly is one to own!!!!!!

Thanks Amazon for having it at a reasonable price!
