Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

The time has come. Remember those cheesy club-classics your trainspotter mates like to slate while they gen up breaks and beats and nu cool drum & bass? Well here they are, credentials firmly reinstated by their Hed Kandi imprint and suddenly sounding like exactly what you want on your stereo before you hit the tiles of an evening. Complied by Hed honcho himself (Jazz FMs Mark Doyle) this selection of landmark tracks hails from the seminal summer-of-love dancefloor of his own late 1980s night, Freestyle. The mix is vocal, uplifting, at times commercial and always evocative of the best nights out you've ever had. Joe Smooth's "Promised Land" had to be here, as did "Shine On" from Degrees of Motion. "Where Love Lives", "Space Cowboy", Patti Day's "Right Before My Eyes"--you could sing along without the accompaniment. But it doesn't stop there. CD 2 brings the champions of 1990s soul-jazz into the fold, including tracks from Soul II Soul ("Ghetto Heaven") and the Young Disciples ("Apparently Nothing"). A couple of 1970s stormers complete the picture (not forgetting of course the Brand New Heavies' "Back To Love" itself)--and the re-education of all those anal trainspotters with it. --Ruby Shepheard

5.0 out of 5 stars '88 and '89 all over again for me, 11 Feb 2001
This album is truly spectacular and really took me back to the late 80's club scene! Listening to it brought me out in goosebumps! If you were THERE then you MUST buy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars 12" mixes!, 11 Oct 2003
By Mrs. D. Colyer "Dance music fan" (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This album contains some of may favourite 12" mixes OF ALL TIME!! Alison Limerick "Where love lives" in the masterful full length mix! And is if that was not enough, how long did I search for the long version of "Let the beat hit 'em" by Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam? Well I searched no further when I purchased this album! Consideroing the sublime enjoyment you get from "Space Cowboy" and "Shine on" it's worth getting just for the tracks I have mentioned if you like full on piano, great bouncing baselines and catchy vocals. If you want the full on originals of some of the all time greats, un mixed with their full intros this is the disc and the label for you. Collectors dream, (If you buy multiple copies of tracks just for the mix!) listeners delight! You just can't buy enough of the back to love albums! Go and get it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Among the best dance music compilations I have heard., 29 Dec 1999
By A Customer
This CD encompasses many of the really big dance anthems from the last decade. The fact that each tune is a full dance mix really takes you back to the club days of DJ's like Graeme Park who would regularly play these tunes in his sets at The hacienda, Manchester. A real pleasure to hear a proper anthems album.
