Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Outro Lado could be perceived as either an album that draws and relates the history of contemporary dance by the use of Brazilian rhythm, or a pastiche of western influences from a Latino perspective. However, discovering that lead vocalist Lilian Viera is Brazilian, yet moved to Amsterdam to join production duo Stefan Kunger and Stefan Schmid, you realise it's probably a bit of both. Viera's sweet yet forceful vocal determines the direction on polished and tweaked tracks like "Maracatu Atomico" and although Schmid and Kruger place a bossa shuffle, d&b patter or chunky hip-hop break, they always complement the lead with at least a minimum of shakers to remind us of where the roots of the album lie. Hence it becomes clear with "No Bar Do Samba" a comic exotic skit and the rare groove of title track "Outo Lado" that the rhetoric is definitely an agenda you'll recognise although through slightly different "global" glasses.-- Found Sounds

3.0 out of 5 stars Modern Brazillian sounds, 22 Dec 2001
By A Customer
Certainly something different and a welcome addition to the collection. Zuco 103 originally came to my attention through Hed Kandi compilations and of course the fact that they are on the same label as Bebel Gilberto. Tanto Tempo it certainly isn't but it is varied, pulsating and certainly worth listening to. 3 1/2 is probably a better rating for it.

There is a nice reworking of Maracatu Atomico and the rest of the album has varying styles incorporating some d&b and excellent beats/vocals even incorporating a rap style a la Brazillian. Outro Lado should be familiar to anyone that has the serve chilled compilations from Hed Kandi. It depends on what variety you like in your collection but it is certainly worth adding.

5.0 out of 5 stars actual originality and humour, 29 Sep 2002
By james e killock (bangor, Gwynedd United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
this is slightly zany stuff, brazilian but not smooth; the beats and electro feel has a germanic stiffness that contrasts with the Brazilian mellowness .. certainly the most original of the current wave of euro-brazilian crossovers if you ask me .. made me laugh out loud with the humour of the sound.
