Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Once essential and unassailable, Alice Cooper albums have been gradually reduced to the status of gig souvenirs; the sonic equivalent of tour programmes for their inglorious creator's increasingly burlesque stage shows. Yet Brutal Planet finds Alice at least toying with the musical Zeitgeist by utilising contemporary metal devices and echoing Marilyn Manson dynamics. His lyrics, meanwhile, can still raise occasional eyebrows. "Pick Up The Bones" is traditionally and exquisitely sick while "Take It Like A Woman" is heavily reminiscent of "Only Women Bleed". But with the album's title track and "Eat Some More" Alice has also belatedly unearthed an environmentally motivated social conscience. Somewhat disturbingly however, both "Wicked Young Man" and "Blow Me A Kiss" are savagely right wing in tone and such clumsy, easily-misinterpreted lyrics would undeniably cause a less established, or indeed, younger man to be publicly pilloried. --Ian Fortnam

5.0 out of 5 stars BRUTAL PLANET, BRUTALLY BRILLIANT!, 6 Oct 2000
By A Customer
I was 1st hooked on Alice with Billion Dollar Babies when it came out in 72 or was it 73, my memory fades, but I then had to find out all the previous stuff. Having, over the last 28 yrs listened to EVEYTHING Alice has done and been to many of his concerts I think I can say I am a true fan. Yes he did lose the plot a bit in the 80s with Flush.. , Zipper.. etc but Trash and Stupid put him back on the road somewhere, was it Texas or was it Canada?. But this new Album, Brutal Planet is a MUST, MUST for any Alice, Marilyn, Grunge rock fan. The words are truly masterful. PICK UP THE BONES, "these look like the arms of my father so strong". BRUTAL PLANET, "it's such a brutal planet, it's such a living hell, it was a hoy garden, that's why we ran and fell. I have already pre ordered the video of the concert from 'Amazon' which, I believe, was filmed at Appolo Hammersmith where I witnessed Alice in his true dominant form. Finally a brilliant masterpiece up to date but still containing some of the old Alice.

GO GET IT

5.0 out of 5 stars Alice IS Brutal!, 25 Jun 2000
Well, many have may be disappointed but I'm not. Being a die-hard Alice Cooper fan I wouldn't want to listen anything less than a new, heavy metal record getting released at this time from Alice Cooper. True, cruel, heavy, meaning-full, a very rich album that stands tall to the new musical standards of the heavy metal scene of today and gives Alice a step ahead to prove that he ain't no nostalgic old man who will seat back and whine about the old glory days. He's here with this album and he will say through it what he wants to say, and not for making another pointless record (like many groups do!) just to be around. Fave songs are "Pick Up The Bones" - a true macabre of the war of Cossovo through Alice's eyes, something that only HE could paint in such a cynical way. Next is "Pessi-mystic", a big SHUT UP from the Master Of Shock Rock to anyone who would try to change his mind....no, honestly is such a heavy song that really makes me wanna go headbanging! "Brutal Planet" song is the way that Alice sees a Godless world and no one could ever say it more clear and loud than him! All the songs are pure hard and heavy, showing that Alice never melted or soften up by time....like wine, the older the better! Alice Cooper's back! Strong and healthy as ever to get on everyone's nerves for not being retired. He won't, get used to that idea! ;)

4.0 out of 5 stars Weird, but great!!!, 16 Jul 2005
Brutal Planet is Alice Coopers first studio album in five years (2001ish) and is the heaviest thing he has ever done. It is also a concept album telling a tale of an apocalyptic future. This is one gloomy record. The groove is as tight as a pair of Bruce Dickinsons spandex pants and the triple axe attack of China, Phil X and Ryan Roxie keep things suitably metal. Songs seem to deal with global starvation and greed (Eat Some More) and paranoia (The Little Things). Alice Cooper was not a happy chappy when recording this album. But apart from all this doom and gloom this record is still an excellent listen, and what do you expect from Alice Cooper anyway? It may take a while to fully appreciate it but perseverance pays dividends.
