This is a recording of a live show tribute to the musical genius of Stephen Sondheim. Some people say Sondheim is an acquired taste because of the unusual subjects he takes for his work in musical theatre, but this collection of songs with superb performances from many of the stage's musical stars proves that if you haven't discovered Sondheim yet then you have missed something wonderful. Particularly good in this album are the performances of Maria Friedman and Michael Ball. Michael's "Broadway Baby" must have brought the house down based on the applause in the background as you hear him treat this Broadway diva classic with such aplomb and wit!
