Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Following their initial inception in 1997, the five extraordinarily exuberant members of Steps rapidly gravitated to the very peak of the pop pile with an irresistible coalition of infectious melodies, lashings of personality and charismatic sparkle. Following hot on the heels of Step One, this second collection further consolidated the band's position as a seductively up beat Abba for the 1990s. Kicking off with the triple barrelled fusillade of "Tragedy", "After The Love Has Gone" and "Love's Got A Hold On My Heart", Steptacular proceeds into hitherto uncharted areas of down-tempo maturity with the contemplative, heart-string stroking of "You're Everything That Matters To Me" and melancholic introspection of "Since You Took Your Love Away". Yet Steptacular still boasts a rich surfeit of Lisa, Faye, Lee, H and Claire's singular sonic bounce--witness the lush simplicity of 'Say You'll Be Mine', yet another sure step on the stairway to pop heaven. --Ian Fortnam

5.0 out of 5 stars The title says it all!, 14 July 2003

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
In my opinion, this is the best Steps album ever (apart from their Greatest Hits one, of course), with enough cheesy but fantastic songs to satisfy any true pop lover!

"Tragedy" kicks off the alb, being Steps' first UK no. 1 alongside "Heartbeat". You don't need an explanation for this track, I'm sure of it! "After the love has gone" is a great Oriental-influenced choon with probably the best dance routine I've ever seen in my life! Claire does this song justice as she hits those high notes in the chorus without breaking a sweat. Next up is "Love's got a hold on my heart", a steptacular slice of pure pop from the fab five. "Say you'll be mine" gives everyone a chance to sing lead vocals and makes a nice change from the norm. I thought that Lee should have had more than one line to sing, as he doesn't sing lead in any other song on this alb, but maybe he's shy, eh? "I think it’s love" is one of my faves from Steptacular; Claire sings lead on this one again and hits more high notes superbly! This is a heartfelt ballad and could bring tears to the eyes of the hardest school bully! (Er, OK then, maybe not...) Then it's Lisa's turn to belt out a choon with "Make it easy on me", which is a bit bland, to be honest. After a few listens this mid-tempo track grew on me, but it's not outstanding like the rest of the album. "Deeper shade of blue" is an all-time Steps classic, and is a bit dancier than their other stuff. It also was the first Steps single that H got to sing a lot of, and he sounds fantabulous! Next is a cover of Bananarama’s little-known hit “Movin’ on”, which only got to no. 24 in August 1992. However, led by Faye and Claire the gang prove here that Steps can make any song their own; this is a happy, bouncy pop choon that’ll have you singing along in no time! “Never say never again” is also a bright pop extravaganza, then “When I said goodbye” brings the pace back down for three and a half minutes while H and Claire show off their fab voices in a gorgeous ballad. “I surrender” is up next, and it’s a lively track with Claire and Faye singing lead once again. Another beautiful slushy number, “Since you took your love away” will leave you awestruck at Faye’s amazing voice, then H gets a song all to himself with “My best friend’s girl”, a typical pop track from the guys. Finally, the album concludes with another swoonsome ballad, “You’re everything that matters to me”. It’s a spine-tingling song with a nice piano instrumental at the end, which I thought was a good way to send us all off!

If you’re into your pop, miss Steps like mad and haven’t bought this album yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??? Go get!

5.0 out of 5 stars What can I say but another Steptacular album from Steps????, 17 July 2002
By A Customer
Another great album from Steps, but not quite as good as Step One, though the 14 tracks make up for that as it still has many quality tunes and a lot worthy of being singles. If you don't like Steps then there is seriously something wrong with you as this album is nothing short of amazing!
1. Tragedy: 8/10 A fairly good start to the album though why it wasn't on Step One is quite a mystery.
2. After The Love Has Gone: 9/10 A brilliant 2nd track to the album with it being the final single from the album. It has a great chinesey feel but if you're reading this you'll probably know that anyway!
3. Love's Got A Hold On My Heart: 9/10 First single from the album and gives a taster of what the rest of the album is like.
4. Say You'll Be Mine: 10/10 An amazingly catchy tune by steps, but where's better the devil you know?
5. I Think It's Love: 9/10 A beautiful ballad but takes a few listens to grow on you.
6. Make It Easy On Me: 11/10 Lisa's amazing vocals are the highlight of this song and make it one of my favourite tracks on the album.
7. Deeper Shade Of Blue: 8/10 Showing a different side to Steps now but very catchy and easy to dance to.
8. Movin' On: 11/10 A great tune with Claire and Faye's amazing vocals hogging the limelight once again. Another favourite.
9. Never Say Never Again: 10/10 Quite a spooky track at first but an amazing one once again.
10. When I Said Goodbye: 10/10 Another amazing performance by Steps with one of the most beautiful tunes on the album.
11. I Surrender: 11/10 Another favourite with Claire's beautiful singing highly recommended.
12. Since You Took Your Love Away: 11/10 This should definitely be single with it's amazing vocal performance by Faye!
13. My Best Friend's Girl: 9/10 Sung by H but not a bad effort at all.
14. You're Everything That Matter To Me: 10/10 A very well produced and quality tune to end the album with Faye singing extremely well on it.
If you like Steps other albums or the singles then this is highly recommended, especially if you liked Step One as it is similar to that.
