The title says it all!, 14 July 2003
In my opinion, this is the best Steps album ever (apart from their Greatest Hits one, of course), with enough cheesy but fantastic songs to satisfy any true pop lover!"Tragedy" kicks off the alb, being Steps' first UK no. 1 alongside "Heartbeat". You don't need an explanation for this track, I'm sure of it! "After the love has gone" is a great Oriental-influenced choon with probably the best dance routine I've ever seen in my life! Claire does this song justice as she hits those high notes in the chorus without breaking a sweat. Next up is "Love's got a hold on my heart", a steptacular slice of pure pop from the fab five. "Say you'll be mine" gives everyone a chance to sing lead vocals and makes a nice change from the norm. I thought that Lee should have had more than one line to sing, as he doesn't sing lead in any other song on this alb, but maybe he's shy, eh? "I think it’s love" is one of my faves from Steptacular; Claire sings lead on this one again and hits more high notes superbly! This is a heartfelt ballad and could bring tears to the eyes of the hardest school bully! (Er, OK then, maybe not...) Then it's Lisa's turn to belt out a choon with "Make it easy on me", which is a bit bland, to be honest. After a few listens this mid-tempo track grew on me, but it's not outstanding like the rest of the album. "Deeper shade of blue" is an all-time Steps classic, and is a bit dancier than their other stuff. It also was the first Steps single that H got to sing a lot of, and he sounds fantabulous! Next is a cover of Bananarama’s little-known hit “Movin’ on”, which only got to no. 24 in August 1992. However, led by Faye and Claire the gang prove here that Steps can make any song their own; this is a happy, bouncy pop choon that’ll have you singing along in no time! “Never say never again” is also a bright pop extravaganza, then “When I said goodbye” brings the pace back down for three and a half minutes while H and Claire show off their fab voices in a gorgeous ballad. “I surrender” is up next, and it’s a lively track with Claire and Faye singing lead once again. Another beautiful slushy number, “Since you took your love away” will leave you awestruck at Faye’s amazing voice, then H gets a song all to himself with “My best friend’s girl”, a typical pop track from the guys. Finally, the album concludes with another swoonsome ballad, “You’re everything that matters to me”. It’s a spine-tingling song with a nice piano instrumental at the end, which I thought was a good way to send us all off! If you’re into your pop, miss Steps like mad and haven’t bought this album yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR??? Go get!
