Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review
S Club 7, a seven-piece collective of teenage boys and girls--Tina, Paul, Hannah, Jon, Bradley, Jo and Rachel--were pre-destined for the dizzy heights of pop stardom with their own personalised PR machine (a show on terrestrial television) and the shrewd management of former Spice Girls manager Simon Fuller. Testimony to this, the band's debut single, the infectiously singalong "Bring It All Back" went straight into the charts at Number One, with the second single "S Club Party" following in hot pursuit. S Club follows a tried and tested pop album formula and features a couple of hum-along cod-Motown numbers ("You're My Number One" and "Everybody Wants Ya"), two bouncy salsa-driven latino songs ("Viva La Fiesta" and "It's A Feel Good Thing"), a caring-sharing social conscience anthem ("Gonna Change the World") and obligatory sloppy love songs "I Really Miss You" and "Two In A Million". Although it's a mediocre offering, it could well end up being a grower. --Ronita Dutta

CD Description
In the cut-throat teen-pop supremacy stakes, the advantage of having your own television program can not be overestimated. Not only does it increase exposure, but it also allows the group to establish a vital sense of character that the likes of Steps and B*witched can only develop in a less directfashion. Eschewing the standard songwriting teams for a variety of contributors, S CLUB 7 is certainly shot through with the same joie de vivre as the "Miami 7" show.
Managed by Simon Fuller, S Club 7 shares the ability of his former proteges the Spice Girls to funnel a range of influences into a sound that is funky rather than derivative. Whilst the twoLatin-flavoured efforts lack the conviction of "Spice Up Your Life", the seven-member outfit fulfils the Janet Jackson-meets-Spector quotient adeptly with "You're My Number One". S Club 7 is similarly at home with slower numbers, on the girls-only "I Really Miss You" and the gentle, glowing "Two ina Million". The recurring "na-na" refrains and the infectious "S Club Party" confirm S CLUB 7 as the soundtrack to seven kids having fun, which makes for unmistakably great pop.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic debut, 30 Dec 2004
By J. McKay "teenage_tree_hugger" (Falkirk, Scotland) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Fresh from bursting onto the pop scene by way of their kids' TV series, "Miami 7", S Club 7 present us with arguably the cheesiest but one of the best debut albums of all time. Chock-full of bright, bouncy pop tracks and featuring a couple of lovely ballads too, "S Club" is a must for any pop lover.

The album kicks off with the group's irresistible first single, "Bring it all back", which zoomed straight to no. 1 in the UK. This happy pop number sets the standard and the sound for the remaining ten tracks, and I'm delighted to say that they all live up to expectations. Songs that follow this catchy pop style are "You're my number one", "S Club party", "Everybody wants ya", "Viva la fiesta" and "It's a feel good thing", the latter two also reminiscent of the Latin genre, albeit cheesily so. This is no bad thing, though, as all of these tracks will put a big grin on the listener's face, which was no doubt the intention when this album was being recorded in 1999.

Jo sings lead vocals on the majority of the songs included in "S Club", proving that her fantastic voice is just no match for her fellow members. She particularly shines on the beautiful ballad "Two in a million", but some of the other S Clubbers get a small chance to show off their vocal talents, too. Rachel is at the main mike on the other ballad, "I really miss you", and sounds very pleasant; the world influences in this track really compliment her soft voice. Bradley and Jon sing lead vocals on what is probably the weakest track on the album, "Gonna change the world", which is a chilled, not quite pop, not quite ballad number. Bradley sounds very young throughout this album; his voice seems to mature a lot over the next few albums. However, he does the infectious disco-inspired "Friday night" justice, one of my favourites from this album, and also makes himself known on "Hope for the future", a wonderful mid-tempo track that is perfect for ending the album.

"S Club" is a cheesy pop fest that, if you are a pop fan, is not to be missed. Even though I said above that "Gonna change the world" is the weakest track, it is by no means a bad song. This appears to be the only S Club album where time was actually spent recording pop songs of excellent quality, and as there are only eleven tracks that says a lot for the record company. Still, this is an ultimate pop album that has firmly established S Club 7 as one of the all-time greats of cheesiness. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars a great pop album, 27 Feb 2001
By A Customer
i first got this album almost one year ago and i still listen to it all the time! The main appeal in this album is that it is so up-beat and easy to listen to!Songs like S Club Party and You're my number one are still as fresh today as when they were first released! Although some lyrics are extremely poor (e.g Gonna Change the World) the album as a wholee is an excellent package. What some people fail to remember is that S Club 7 do not claim to be serious musicians;they are a fun band making fun music. Great music to listen after a hard day. Sometimes everyone just needs some meaningless, cheesy tunes! BUY IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Album In The World!, 8 Oct 2003
This is the best album I have ever heard in my life, I bought it as soon as it came out and me and my cousin sung and danced it all the time. After this album I was a huge fan of S Club, I hadn't really heard of them before that but then I really liked them. I now have all the bands singles, albums, DVD's, video's, most of the books and the calenders and posters. Love the band, shame they had to split up but I went to the S Club United tour and that was just brilliant. It was the best birthday present ever.
