Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

1999 was an eventful year for music, and Now! 44 reflects this with a double-CD collection of some of the year's biggest hits. As is expected from the Now That's What I Call Music! series, none of the chart-toppers are left unrepresented: there's Robbie Williams ("She's The One"), Britney Spears ("Baby One More Time"), Shania Twain ("That Don't Impress Me Much") and Steps ("Tragedy"), to name a just few. In addition to the expected list of pop stars, the UK chart's diversity is demonstrated by the inclusion of a number of different styles, from dance (Moloko, ATB, etc) to indie (Supergrass, Bran Van 3000) to reggae (Bob Marley), and all points in between. An essential snapshot of a great year for music. --Ted Kord

5.0 out of 5 stars Best in a long while!, 1 Jan 2000
By A Customer
As a Canadian who's been buying these album as imports since the first NOW double-LP back in 1983, (and that hasn't been easy) this is certainly the best in the series since NOW 38 (Never Ever/High/Angels/Perfect Day).

With Britney, Shania & Steps, there's a definite attempt to catch up on some missed hits from earlier in the year, while Wamdue Project wasn't even out when this CD was released.

What's staggering is how many acts on this CD have lasted so long: Phil & Tina were on the first two NOW releases. Diana Ross & Bob Marley also made early appearances. Tom Jones, I believe, is making his first appearance!

Four (count 'em 4) Spice Girls solos extends their NOW appearance streak to a record 11 consecutive editions, breaking the old Queen/Freddy Mercury streak.

Only disappoinment: No Travis. Hard to get Travis over here.

Hey! Anyone know of a site which keeps a history of the NOW albums, both UK & world-wide?

i got this cd a while ago for my birthday and i really loved the 1st disc because of the different stlyes of music whereas, the only thing i was`nt impressed with was that the disc2 was mostly ibiza club dance music. Though this is a great buy i would`nt really recomend it.But if you`re in to club music and bumpy music you neeeeed it!

4.0 out of 5 stars greats tuff!, 16 Jul 2001
By A Customer
britney's crackin' debut single is a great start to this now! There are all sorts of styles in this now! including the dancey blue da ba dee lou's mambo and r kelly's turn back the hands of time to slow your mind down and keep you calm for a few minutes. Overall a great addition to the now! collection.
