Passion and Pride with Anthemic Nationalistic Songs, 17 Dec 1999
This album is almost a complete gem. The one lapse or musical misfit, has to be BOGA BOGA performed by the French Bayonne Basque Choir.Aside from that, and you may even like the track, this album resonates with nationalistic anthems and haunting gaelic melodies. No one can doubt the sheer beauty and awesome nature of the melodies and harmonies brought to the songs by the Male Voice Choirs. Highlights, have to be the most excellent Shosholoza by Lady Smith Black Mambazo, and Bryn Terfel's unique vocal. And can we forget the most amazing of all... The Black Mountain Male Chorus. If you are not Welsh, then you will still, personally appreciate the fine vocal harmonies, and if you are Welsh then your heart will pound and your passion will be revitalised as you cast distant longings towards Home, where the green grass and lush valleys with picturesque panoramas abound. This album is a must for any Rugby fan, but the Welshness definitely shines through to produce a stunning and lasting memory of Rugby World Cup 99 (WALES) This has to be purchased and listened to if you are exiled, and must be played in the build-up to any Rugby 6 Nations Championship. The true masterpiece apart from the chosen ones above, has to be the stunning rendition of World in Union - The Welsh Mountain Mix. This is an absolute classic that will send shivers down your spine as the Welsh Chorus harmonizes to perfection. What more can I say.....a truly superb piece of musical history.
