Unlike fellow Irish musical legends and survivors of the 1980s U2, Hothouse Flowers have lasted the years without continuous strings of hit singles or media attention. That is not to say they haven't had their success, they have just been too busy touring Japan, Europe, USA and Australia and selling millions of copies of their albums People, Home, Songs From The Rain and Born to play the chart game. Which is why this is a "Best of" and not a "Greatest Hits" album--the Irish soul boys, led by piano-bashing, gravel-voiced Liam O'Maonlai, haven't really had any great hits since breakthrough single "Don't Go" and their cover of Johnny Nash's "I Can See Clearly Now", which confirmed their destiny to pick up Van Morrison's mantle as the soul-folk voice of Ireland. So Best Of Hothouse Flowers, which includes the hits (both of them) and tracks from their multi-platinum albums is more a chance to remind the world that they still exist, that since 1987 they have consistently delivered big-hearted gospel anthems and that they are one of Ireland's biggest musical exports.
