Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Mike Myers's love letter to mid-1960s pop kitsch (and understated critique of the hardcore 1990s) may not have wowed many critics, but it soldiered quirkily along to become a true cult hit. Its soundtrack is one of the film's more underrated charms--a savvy mix of 1960s and 90s influences that are by turns infectiously silly (the Powers-fronted Ming Tea's earnestly energetic "BBC") and downright sublime (Burt Bacharach and the Posies' new take on "What the World Needs Now"). Cuts by acid-jazz powerhouse The James Taylor Quartet, the Diviynls, Quincy Jones, the Cardigans and others round out the decidedly groovy proceedings. --Jerry McCulley

5.0 out of 5 stars Contemporary, Evocative, And Exotic!, 17 Oct 2001
By A Customer
From a truly terrific film, the Austin Powers soundtrack is evocatively redolent of the "Swinging Sixties!" cliché. The fresh and energizing bearing of classic 60s hits such as Incense And Peppermints and Mas Que Nada vividly recreate the jaunty sensation of being part of an altogether groovier and more exotic era. Modern 90s tracks (including the upbeat "I Touch Myself") as well as many commissioned for the film, work well with the more contemorary genre. But of course, as with practically all film soundtracks, the overall effect is greatly more compelling and apt when being experienced on-screen!!
Definately Five Star material, because as a compilation it is a classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice. This one'll make swingers of us yet., 7 Sep 2000
By A Customer
An excellent mood album, including contributions from current artists as well as paying tribute to the sounds of the 1960s. Transport yourself back to a much more groovy era, and revel in the wonderfully rich send-ups of countless spy movie soundtracks. Top stuff.
