Product Description

CD Description

Bryan Adams's second major-label release, CUTS LIKE A KNIFE, is a real step forward from his debut, rocking harder and swaggering more brashly than before. But mainly it is the solidification of the songwriting team of Adams and Jim Vallance that is most evident here. They deliver a round of readymade FM rock anthems, including the mid-tempo "This Time" andthe tough yet sensitive title track, which greatly benefited from an MTV video portraying the brooding Adams in a blackleather jacket. Adams also had a big hit with the earnest ballad, "Straight From the Heart".
Here Adams shows off his far-reaching appeal. His brand of hard rock was brash andbasic enough to win over the average Bic-igniting rock concert-goer, and with his wounded, rough-hewn look, he had whatit took to be a rock heartthrob. Adams's voice has the timbre of Rod Stewart and the soulful, defiant delivery of Bob Seger and Bruce Springsteen, but he's always a lot less down in the mouth than those singers. Though he gets a bit wistful on "The Best Was Yet to Come" Adams's youthful but experienced voice presents a younger version of roots rock without the complicated subtext.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bryan Adams' first classic, 6 Sep 2000
By A Customer
Everything about this album grabs you from the word go - the production is aggressive, the playing is unbelievably tight, the mix is perfect and the songs, with a couple of exceptions, are first class. Even the weaker songs, such as "I'm ready" and "What's it gonna be?" are acceptable.

The highlights here are "The only one", "Take me back", the title track, "Don't leave me lonely" and the first of BA's famous ballads, "Straight from the heart". The closing "The best was yet to come" is also a fine ballad, if a little sugary, and you'll end up wishing the album was longer than the rather miserly 35+ minutes - mind you, that was pretty much standard in the early '80s.

Anyone who likes Bryan Adams should not miss this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars ...But It Feels So Right, 24 May 2004

The first thing I remember about this album was the title track being played at Live Aid , and BA getting the crowd to sing with him . There are nine cracking tracks on the album . Highlights must be the feelgood 'This Time' , the anthemic title track , and the balladry of 'The Best Was Yet To Come' . Go Geddit !!

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG!!!, 7 Feb 2006

seriously people, if you're a BAD fan, this is the one to have...'straight from the heart' is easily the classic of classics from Bryan Adams. Compiled with several other hard rocking tunes, that can only belong to the one and only, Bryan Adams does well for this album at the end of the 80's era.
