Product Description

Product Description

They'd soon crash, and hard, thanks to their own excesses. But Rocks captures Aerosmith at a crazily driven peak of creativity; anyone who heard it and continued to dismiss them as mere Stones clones was just being wilful. This is blues rock cranked up to 1970s stadium level, the sound of the Trans Am, or maybe the Porsches several of these guys (surprisingly) remember driving. The psychic battering they would succumb to on the next year's Draw the Line is foreshadowed in Joe Perry's "Combination", but he and Steven Tyler also celebrate the rock-star mythos on "Lick and a Promise." The party-fuelled tension, the tension-fuelled party. -- Rickey Wright

CD Description

One of the reasons why Aerosmith, after a number of creatively lean years, are still given legendary credence and an eager ear with each new release, Rocks encapsulated the very essence of rock 'n' roll. They may have been the target of detractors who still pinned them as nothing more than a poor man's Rolling Stones, but Rocks pioneered a strength and swagger and real depth that remains very nearly unsurpassed. From the slowly escalating 'Back In The Saddle' to the dying strains of 'Home Tonight', this album held the full spirit andsoul of Aerosmith in both hands.

5.0 out of 5 stars ****½, 10 Nov 2003
By Docendo Discimus (Vita scholae) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
Guitarist Joe Perry wanted Aerosmith's third album, "Toys In The Attic", to be called "Rocks", but he was out-voted, and that title had to wait a year before being applied to this great collection of bluesy hard rock.

Many people consider "Rocks" to be Aerosmith's greatest album, and while that is debatable ("Toys" is at least as good), it does feture some of the band's best and most consistent songwriting.
Opening with the tough hard-rock stomper "Back In The Saddle", "Rocks" goes through a number of highlights, including the slow funk-groove of "Last Child", and the tough riff-rockers "Lick And A Promise", "Combination" and "Get The Lead Out".

But everything is worth a listen, really, and "Rocks" is a must-have for fans of early Aerosmith. One of the best American hard rock records of the mid-seventies.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Hard Rock Album Ever!, 3 Oct 2000
By Nick Clarkson (Middleton, Manchester) - See all my reviews

On cold winter evenings when the wind howls around the house and leaves blow against the window trying to seek shelter from the storm, across the country rock fans gather around the warm glow of the fire, beer in hand, to discuss which album was the greatest hard rock album ever released. Was it the first Montrose album..possibly...Van Halen's?..maybe Zep 3? All worthy contenders until the mention of Aerosmith Rocks is whispered and all heads nod in appreciation. When it was released back in 1976 Aerosmith were arguably at their commercial and artistic height over in the old US of A. The band could do no wrong. This album is a fine testimony to that fact. Tie Gramps to the rocking chair coz when you put this baby on the sheer power is gonna make him fly up the chimney! Kicking off with the now legendary Back in the Saddle, the pace never lets up. The funky sass of Last Child is next followed immediately by Rats in the Cellar which will just blow you away with its frentic riffing and spat out lyrics, a classic. This is one album with atitude and it shoves it down your throat from start to finish. With hindsight we see today that Aerosmith, after a rocky (sic) time have again climbed back to the heights of success they so rightfully deserve and many Aerosmith fans may argue that maybe the album before this, Toys in the Attic, or later albums such as Pump,Permanent Vacation or Nine Lives are better...that'll always be debatable. But for sheer unbridled aggression and white knuckle thrills there is no other album like it. Buy and grin inanely.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, 16 Sep 2001
This is the is possibly the greatest rock album of all time. From start to finish this is pure class with no low points. Back in The Saddle is one of my fave Aero tracks and is a great start to the album. Rats, Combination and Sick As A Dog are all very cool and Combination has a rhythm section at the end that will send you wild! Lick and A Promise, Get the Lead Out And Home Tonight are all really cool typically Aero songs and Nobody's Fault is just 100% Hard ROCK!!!!!! Buy this or you will miss out on a great experience in your life.
