The best thing about this album is the songs, undoubtly 6 of Reed's biggest. But listening to it one can only be glad that Reed didn't make it big before 'Transformer' if that's how his songs might have sounded like. In the versions they receive on this album, none of these 6 songs would have lasted 30 years and surely more. It's great (if you're a reed fan) to hear a completely different version to the original one, but a big rock'n'roll band with flashy full-distortion guitar solos that makes the song much much longer, makes Reed songs sound funny, was he actually on stage with this band? It truly sounds somewhere between cover versions performed by a typical 70's Hard rock band and Reed's self-mockery show. Nevermind though, it's gives a good comparison indicator between what was popular at the time and what Reed chose to do in the studio. This album proves beyond any reasonable doubt that Reed's studio desicions won. I'd recommend this album to all the Heavy metal / rhythm and blues / prog rock lovers of the 70's that usually can't stand and maybe understand Reed's material. This is for you heavy metal thunders!!!

I recently listened to Rock 'n Roll Animal which after years of neglect blew me away. I'm sure this is the same 'concert' or tour as Lou Reed Live which to all intents and purposes is an extension of the aforementioned album. I recommend both albums to all discerning rock guitar enthusiasts. Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner play some stunning guitar; fast,harmonious,melodic,clever,thoughtful....brilliant!! I have both CD's in my car and play them over and over again.
Both of these albums should be included in everyone's guitar heroes collection. For the recored, I don't like Lou Reed but he does not get in the way of some terrific guitar playing.Why only 4 stars? Lou Reed's vocals. Buy these albums.
