5.0 out of 5 stars Deeply Lyrical Reading by Stern, 29 Aug 2009
By Scriabinmahler (Cambridge UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
I'm not a great fan of Isaac Stern and I used to hate his squeaky tone. I sold all of his CDs except this one. I found it hard to part with when I played Brahms Violin Concerto again. It is deeply lyrical and expressive reading that captures the the sublime atmosphere of the first and the second movement like no other violinists can. The orchestra plays most beautifully with equally warm and expressive sound under Ormandy. Coupled with wonderful recording of Double Concerto played by the violinist and the great cellist, Leaonard Rose.
