Product Description

Product Description

Having established their reputation as Comeback Kids with 1987's Permanent Vacation, Aerosmith proceeded to cement it with 1989's Pump. With hit singles like the expectedly raunchy "Love in an Elevator" and the unexpectedly socially relevant "Janie's Got a Gun" (which, unlike most socially relevant songs by hard rock bands, manages to avoid the cheese factor), Pump was proof positive that the boys were back. Everything that makes Aerosmith what they are is present here: a solid bluesy base, tight arrangements, sexy rhythms, and a heavy dose of fun. There are some nice touches too; check out the bass line on "Voodoo Medicine Man", or the blues-folk ending tacked onto "What It Takes" that, more than anything else on the album, reveals the band's roots. --Genevieve Williams

CD Description

Following the triumphant comeback success of PERMANENT VACATION, Aerosmith's next album, PUMP, proved to be an opportunity for the band to cut back on the army of songwriters thathad lent its hand on the prior album. Most of the material on 1989's PUMP was generated from within the band, and Jim Vallance and Desmond Child are the album's only outside collaborators.
Sober and fully functional, Aerosmith used the momentum of success to churn out songs that tapped into the band's libidinous instincts, like "Young Lust" and "Love in an Elevator". The band also took a chance by including a Steven Tyler/Tom Hamilton hit about incest ("Janie's Got a Gun"), a semi-autobiographical rant about the evils of drug use ("Monkey on My Back"), and a bluegrass/Indian instrumental ("Dulcimer Stomp"). Although the brassy "The Other Side" and the power-ballad "What it Takes" became top-30 hits, it was with lesser-known songs like the Stones-esque pop nugget "MyGirl" that Aerosmith showed it was still capable of being America's top rock & roll band.

4.0 out of 5 stars A non-classical CD with indexes, 26 April 2009
By J. Verwer (Voorschoten, NL) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Pump (Audio CD)
I bought this CD for basically one reason: I needed a CD with some tracks divided into different indexes. Usually only old classical music CDs feature indexes, but this is a rare (unique?) example of a rock CD with indexes. Thankfully the music itself is also quite good, especially the well-known "Love in an Elevator", which should bring back good memories to anyone who's ever been in the Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. If you like Aerosmith and have a CD player that can display indexes, but not a single CD that makes use of this feature, then by all means do yourself a favor and buy this album.

This is the album which started a love for the greatest band of all time...... aerosmith.

i heard this 4 years ago and since i bought it i am well on the way to getting all of there albums!!

Love in a elavator, FINE, what it takes, voodoo medicine man, all classics but one of the most touching songs about 'hazy' past...... monkey on my back, written i feel about their past addictions.

since after they cleaned up only allittle south of sanity has come close to touching this and that is a live album!!!

it will blow your mind away!!

Live the dream.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Rock Album - Never Bettered, 27 Sep 2000
By A Customer
Quite simply one of the greatest rock albums ever made. It oozes class from every track. OK I got this in the 80's when it came out and I still play it every so often. The singles are great - 'Elevator', 'Janie', 'What it takes', 'The Other Side'. There is a video I saw - 'The making of PUMP' which shows all the hard work they put into creating this masterpiece and they knew then that they were making something special.

If I had to take 1 CD with me onto a desert island this would be it - without a doubt.

It blows away anything they have done since, and some of that is pretty good too.

You will not be disappointed - and the price is good too :)
