5.0 out of 5 stars Liza May Minnelli, 17 Mar 2004
By Reno (Europe (I'm not gonna say where)) - See all my reviews
By all means this happens to be one of the best soundtracks I've ever heard. Liza Minnelli does such a convincing job as the fraülein Sally Bowles, she's energic, forceful and ravingly wonderful. This sound is just great and it's not just Liza it's the whole cast, Joel Grey does a wonderful job and it also earned him an oscar for best supporting actor, he's so great escpecially on "Willkommen" and "If You Could See Her". The last song mentioned is perticulary wonderful, it's such a "tragic" love story with a deeper meaning behind it [for the dumb ones, it's about a german who falls in love with a jew].
Liza Minnelli is outstanding her overall performance is legendary songs such as "Mein Herr [my favourite Liza Minnelli song]", "Maybe This Time" and on the immortal "Cabaret". The movie was one of the best I've ever seen, and the soundtrack is just as ravishing, by all means one of the best Pictures/soundtracks ever created. Hail Liza May Minnelli.

Academy Awards:

1. Best Actress [Liza Minnelli]
2. Best Soundtrack
3. Best Art Direction
4. Best Cinamatography
5. Best Director [Bob Fosse]
6. Best Editing
7. Best Sound
8. Best Supporting Actor [Joel Grey

Can you belivie that 8 Oscars.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Put down the knitting, the book, and the broom", 17 April 2003

Included is an In-Depth 20 page booklet with pictures of the actors and descriptions of the song environments. I will not argue the virtues of the original play vs. the movie as I grew up on the movie. However I have seen a local version of the play. This recording gives you the feel that you are there. Many people appreciate the added songs because they paint a more in-depth story especially the added tracts. However I just like the music for its own sake. I am not going to go through the list of songs or singers as I thing you will enjoy discovering them your self. All I can say id even if you have other versions of the score you need to add this to your repertoire.

5.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT SOUNDTRACK TO PERFECT MOVIE, 16 May 2003
By Pieter "Toypom" (Johannesburg) - See all my reviews
(TOP 10 REVIEWER)
This soundtrack is absolutely perfect, without one throwaway track. You needn’t even have to have seen the movie to enjoy these marvellous songs, but it certainly helps. I consider the movie and this album the highlight of Liza Minnelli’s career. It starts with Joel Grey’s Wilkommen, after which Sally Bowles is introduced and lets rip with Mein Herr. Two Ladies is risqué and very funny, while Maybe This Time is a sad love song. Money Money is energetic and very funny while Heiraten sounds like a real period piece, a German love song from the 1930s. If You Could See Her Through My Eyes (the love song to a gorilla maiden) is full of irony, while Tomorrow Belongs To Me is as chilling and sinister as it is anthemic. The title track Cabaret needs no comment as it is so familiar, but it does encapsulate the mood of the film very well. Even the two instrumentals, Tiller Girls and Sitting Pretty are memorable and charming. The Cabaret soundtrack is a masterpiece, as is the movie, a true work of art.
