Sabine Meyer has done it again. This is by far her best recording to date. She has taken the "Grandfather" - the Mozart concerto, and produced an historically accurate and exciting recording of this piece on a period instrument. Not big news, you say? Possibly. Hers isn't the first such recording, but it is the most exciting and stimulating one to date. Her innovative and striking embellishments turns this standard concerto into a brand new piece for the listener. She has once again proven herself as an innovator and creator of new musical ideas. Along these same lines, she has included a piece by Takemitsu, which is lyrical and lovely, and the Debussy First Rhapsodie, also a standard in the clarinet literature, and given a beautiful and haunting reading here. Definitely a keeper!
